In the case of pre-term birth or traumatic birth using instruments (forceps), lack of vitamin K might increase the risk of cerebral haemorrhage.
Vitamin C is known to be a potent antioxidant. To pregnant women, it is important in protecting the body against harmful free radicals. Deficiency in vitamin C results in complications and health problems like anaemia, pre-term rupture of membranes, low birth weight and preeclampsia.
The last of the common pregnancy supplements are the B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7 and B9). These organic substances are not only essential in aiding normal metabolism, they also play crucial roles in the brain, nerve, bone, muscle and central nervous system development of the baby.
The essential foods to eat when pregnant may also be complimented by fish oil supplements. These supplements supply the body with healthy oils like Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA, which aid normal brain, eye and vision development.

They are all too big and too expensive. For a first kit all you need are two pairs of forceps, large and small, scissors, large and fine, a scalpel handle with assorted surgical blades and a probe or two, all in a small tool roll. You might want to add a small artery forceps, which I find useful round the house anyway, and a magnifying glass.
